Gothenburg and project plan

Today our project manger Jonas will go to Gothenburg, the second largest city in Sweden to give a Rethink The Future-speech and facilitate a workshop on regional cooperation.

He will also visit Ekocentrum and the Museum of World Culture.

We are also working on;
- Funding applications due to May 1st.
- Planning for the lectures and workshop during the summer.

Local lecture

We´re currently working with some funding applications for the forum, but I just wanted to give you a heads up on our local lectures we will start marketing during the first week of may.

In the fall 2009 and spring 2010 we will go around to give local lectures on the theme of Rethink The Future. The lecture will be a way to create more ways of discussion on the issue with a local twist.

The lecture will be an hour with a following discussion.

It´s weekend and we´re not working that much on the forum until Monday, but I just need to tell you about the good news. We´re now back from our little Twitter-problem (we got suspended because we found so many interesting people to follow so we broke a user agreement rule). But now the problem are solved and we´re back updating about the project again.

Good news everyone!

We´ve decided on the theme on The Commons Forum 2009. It´s called Rethink The Future.

INTRO
We are living in the middle of one of the greatest changes in society since the industrial revolution. The economical downturn, climate change and globalization are creating new challenges every day. And many people predict it´s just getting worse. But now it´s time to stop, evaluate our past actions and dream.

Because behind all the dark headlines we can see some of the ideas that will create the new world. And the first Commons Forum will be devoted to give the young people of the world a boost of inspiration and tools to start thinking about the future and be the force of change towards a sustainable world.

It´s time to take back the control of the future…

The forum will include;

* Inspiring people, ideas and innovations to build a better future.
* Discussions and workshops for best practice.
* Study trips to organizations and companies working on solutions to some of our great challenges.
* Breathtaking cultural activities.
* Social activities and informal meetings.

Workshops

We would like to know more what young people think about global issues today. Because we know that the solutions to all the challenges we face are out there. It´s just the matter of amplify them and inspire more people to think creative around the issues.

So will will organize a number of events together with partners to let young people discuss and dream about the world and our place in it. The workshops will be held during the summer and all the results will be taken into the development of the projects.

A little backgroud

The Commons Forum have been developed from the urge of doing something around the UN-meeting on climate change in Copenhagen. The meeting will be one of the most important in our time and the treat of a failure are getting larger every day.

So a group of young people active in global development issues where discussion about different ways to deal with this. And they agreed on making a youth meeting in Sweden and then spread it over the Internet to schools and youth centers around the world.

And now it´s about seven months left and we´re working full speed.
